Chrysogonum v. ’Pierre’
{24 Pots - 3 1/2 in.}

(AKA Goldenstar, Golden Star, Goldenknees, Golden Knees, Green and Gold)
Chrysogonum virginianum ’Pierre’ is a low-growing, herbacious, mat-forming plant, similar in structure to Ajuga. Superb in terms of both spread and degree to which it covers itself with flowers, it creates a delightful ground cover or edging in the perennial border.
This variety of Chrysogonum is valued for its longer blooming time. Star-shaped golden yellow flowers (1 to 1 1/2" long) highlight this ground cover in spring and continue sporadically throughout the summer. The semi-evergreen leaves are dark-green, opposite, and reach 1-2 in. long. The leaves are round-toothed along the edges. Fruit is tiny and non-ornamental.

Also commonly known as "Green and Gold", it is a semi-evergreen North Carolina woodlands native which looks at home in the flower garden. Combines well with evergreen and deciduous shrubs, small trees, ferns and herbacious perennials. Excellent as a facer in naturalized gardens, especially useful for partial shade borders.
Moderate growth rate, may need water in full sun. Requires afternoon or full shade in warmer climates, prefers moist soil and good drainage. Tolerant to a wide range of well-drained soils. Fair to good weed suppressive rating. Limited foot traffic is tolerated. Mature height 4" - 6", spreads indefinitely, spacing: 9-15".
